"When I think of all the things I bought or that were given to me for my daughter that I never used, I lose count immediately... There really are only a handful of investments that we made that we would make all over again without even thinking about it.  The time we spent with Katie is at the top of that list."

Sleeping Like a Baby

Katie's Thoughts on Sleep Training

Teaching your child to sleep well can be challenging.  Sleep during toddler and preschool years can go sideways for a variety of reasons... developmental changes, an illness, vacation, maybe your child has always had a hard time falling or staying asleep, or perhaps you are just ready for your child to sleep differently than in the past.  How we improve your child's sleep partially depends on your child's specific challenges.  However there are some basic principles that guide everything I teach.

My Guiding Principles for Sleep Training

Evidence Based, I'm a nurse, everything I recommend is based off science

Practical, I'm a mom, I know that parents need to know exactly what to do, and then exactly what to do if/when the first plan doesn't work

Gradual, small challenges each week, to gradually get your child sleeping better, and maintain better sleep

Available, the more involved you are with your child falling asleep at bedtime and overnight, the more challenges your child will have, however as we teach your child to sleep better, you can be available and present at predictable times to offer assistance, love, and support

Positive, my mommy heart guides all recommendations I make, positive and supportive interactions are always the way

Individualized, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to anything in life, especially when it relates to children and their sleep challenges

Common Questions

01

 WILL THERE BE TEARS?

IF SO, HOW MANY?

My goal is to help you teach your child how to sleep well in the most gradual, positive way possible, while also guiding you on setting appropriate boundaries.  Any time there is change, there may be frustration and boundary testing, which can often lead to tears.  Setting boundaries can be hard, for both you and your kiddo.  But it is a critical step in teaching your child to sleep well (and parenting in general).  However, when we work together to set boundaries, they will always meet 3 criteria... they will be age/developmentally appropriate, kind, and in your child's best interest.  There will be no crying-it-out.  I will help you first teach your child to except less help than he/she prefers, and then gradually wean your help away.  There will be times when you give your child space to practice some of the things he/she is learning and to help him/her gain confidence.  Additionally,  there are often changes we can make during the day that will help to improve your child's sleep which require absolutely no tears.

02

HOW DO YOU TEACH THINGS GRADUALLY?

I believe people (parents and kids!) have capacity for a limited amount of change at one time.  Otherwise overwhelm kicks in, our new goals feel impossible, and so we don't make any change at all. Therefore, gradual change is always my approach.

Let's say your preschooler currently needs you to lay in bed with him as he falls asleep, wakes multiple times overnight, and requires you to lay in bed with him to fall back to sleep... and your goal for your preschooler is for him to fall asleep in his bed by himself and wake in his bed the next morning, rested and ready to go.  My overall goal for your child will be to meet your goals.  However, your end goal will NOT be your goal week 1.  If this was your child's initial goal, it would feel impossible.  He would not feel like he could accomplish this.  He wouldn't even know where to begin.  And so we begin by making small goals to help him gain some momentum and feel good about his progress.  Each week we will give him small challenges to help him move from where he began, to where we want him to be.

03

I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO KEEP MY CHILD IN THEIR BED, HOW WILL YOU HELP TEACH THIS?  WILL WE HAVE TO LOCK MY CHILD IN THE ROOM?

No, we will not be locking your child in their room, although I know many parents have done this out of desperation and feeling like there are no other options.  I prefer to teach your child how to stay in bed with the door open.  I realize you may think this is impossible, but it is one of the coolest things to teach your child and watch them mange the freedom of an open door.  To achieve this, our primary focus will be teaching your child to do what we want him/her to do with positive interactions and rewards.  However, we will also set appropriate boundaries and develop a plan on how to respond when things don't go as desired.  I will teach you how to respond in a calm and positive way that leaves you feeling like a badass for handling a stressful situation so peacefully.

04

IS GROUP TRAINING EFFECTIVE?  WILL IT ADDRESS MY FAMILY'S SPECIFIC NEEDS?

Group coaching with me does not mean less personal.  It does not mean generic.  It does not mean one-size-fits-all.  I truly believe my group coaching is an elevated experience that is different and not available with 1:1 coaching.  To meet each family's needs yet have the benefits of the group experience, I am very intentional with how I personalize our time together.  I will have a 1:1 call with each family before our first group call so I have the opportunity to get to know your family and your specific challenges.  This allows me to tailor my coaching to meet your needs.  You will send me a weekly update on your progress and challenges which I will address during our weekly group call.  I will give each family a specific goal every week.  Finally, every family will have the opportunity to schedule a 30 minute 1:1 phone call with me at any point throughout our time together.

05

By age 1, healthy children should be able to obtain all of their nutrition during the day.  My goal is to help you offer all food and drink during meals only, and remove any eating/drinking from the bedroom (with the exception of water).  If this is a challenge you are having, we will spend time reviewing your child's eating/drinking during the day and night to determine how to best make this transition.

06

SHOULD I CHOOSE GROUP OR

1:1 COACHING?

Group coaching is a great option if, in addition to transforming sleep in your home, you feel like you would benefit by learning from other families with similar challenges, hearing practical ways they work through their challenges, are inspired by how others who are having similar challenges are making changes and improvements, and having support, encouragement, and accountability from the group.

1:1 coaching is a great option if you are ready to begin coaching immediately and thus do not wish to wait for a group coaching session to begin, your schedule is such that you would not be available for a group call at the same time each week, or you simply prefer 1:1 coaching.

07

DO YOU HAVE A GAURUNTEE?

Yes.  If you participate in the 1:1 call at the beginning of the program, send weekly status updates, participate in weekly group calls, take advantage of the 30 minute 1:1 coaching call with me, and follow my recommendations, you will see drastic improvements in your child's sleep.  If you do not see drastic improvements in your child's sleep, you are entitled to complete a request for additional support.  All requests for additional support are within the company's sole discretion as to whether they grant or deny the request.

08

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS OR

PROMO CODES?

I do not currently offer discounts or promo codes.  You may, however, check with your HSA to see if sleep coaching services qualify for use of HSA funds.

"Hands down... the best thing I could've ever done for my daughter. My daughter co-slept with us until she was a year old. Within those few months before her first birthday, I contacted Katie with my goals. Katie made every single goal achievable and successful for us! She is SO knowledgeable, kind, patient, VERY patient, and so helpful! Every family and every baby is different, and Katie does an amazing job at customizing a plan just for you and your child. I was very sad when our time came to an end, but on the opposite end, I was ecstatic that every wish I had for my daughter to sleep in her crib on her own, came true! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this and Katie. If your hesitant, absolutely do not be! I'm telling you to make the leap! You will not regret it. Thank you, Katie!"

"I cannot recommend Katie enough! Her assistance, coaching, and care have changed our lives! I was really wondering how I would ever make it through the possibility of another child not sleeping through the night, but with Katie's help I know it is possible for ALL children to have a normal, scheduled sleep routine. If you're experiencing something similar, this is the answer! Katie's methods are grounded in research and years of experience as a nurse, mom, and caregiver. She is the real deal and undoubtedly will be able to help your family too!."

"HER EXPERTISE, AVAILABILITY, AND COMPASSION WAS MORE THAN I COULD HAVE HOPED FOR."

"We found Katie like most parents do - out of desperation. All activities requiring sleep were a huge struggle for our then two-year-old, and a challenge for us. From frequent nighttime wakings to falling asleep only with us in the room to early morning wake-ups at 4:30am, we handled it until we couldn’t take it any longer, and called on Katie to help the three of us find some relief. Katie went above and beyond to not only equip us with the right tools and language to help our little guy with his sleep, she empowered us to confidently guide our son into times of rest that benefitted all of us. Her expertise, availability and compassion was more than I could have hoped for. If you are on the fence about asking Katie to help you with a hurdle your family is trying to get over, why wait? She is the perfect partner to provide the lift you need to get you over the hump into a place where your family is thriving. Thank you Katie!!"

We were referred to Katie from close friends that raved about how much Katie helped them with their children and sleeping schedule. We were not disappointed!!! Kate was fantastic! From the very first conversation, she was supportive, educational and empowering. She gave us strategies on how to begin the sleeping process and encouraged us along the way. We went from our son sleeping in our bed every night to now he knows the routine and is proud of himself for sleeping in his own bed!! Thank you so much Katie!!

"I spent WEEKS researching different sleep consultants, both near and far, and could not find a single one that believed Cry It Out method (CIO) did not work for all babies. Enter Katie. From our very first conversation, she reiterated to me that every baby, every family is different and has different goals. She worked with us to find a sleep training plan that fit us AND our son, not the other way around...  The work you did with our family was worth every penny and more! It gave us a life and the chance to really enjoy life with our child."
