I hope I am not the only person this happens to. Surely not. Do you ever have something in your life that is off track and you know you really need to make changes? And you feel like you should be able to figure out what to do to make those changes? But it feels too hard to figure it out? So everything stays the same? For me it alternates between diet, business, and marriage. Actually as I write this, I know why I haven't made enough of a dent in any of these areas.
It's because I haven't made the time to sit down, take inventory of where I am, and make goals about where I want to be. If your kiddo's sleep is one of those things for you, and you are ready to make some moves, but you need someone to tell you exactly where to begin, check out the first 5 steps to getting started.
01 - Schedule Time
Schedule 30-45 minutes with your partner (or yourself!). Put it on the calendar! A lunch date, nap-time on the weekend, or after the kids go to bed at night are all great options.
02 - Who Will Lead?
Assign one partner to lead the conversation. This person should take notes as you talk (typing is fast and easy) and ask questions as you go.
03 - A Day-In-The-Life
Review a typical day in your house - focusing on the kiddo who has sleep challenges. Start at wake-up time, talk through the details of a typical day, and end at wake-up time the next morning. Include eating and any other daytime activities that could affect sleep.
04 - Identify Challenges
Identify 2-4 major challenges of your kiddo's sleep based on your conversation.
05 - Goals
Take turns talking about your goals and what you want to achieve with your changes.
You must know exactly where you begin before you can get accurate directions to your final destination. I dare you to make today the day you schedule time on your calendar!
If you...
feel overwhelmed by doing this on your own
feel lost when it comes to coming up with a plan
or just want someone to someone to tell you exactly what to do every step of the way
